Marginal versus Segmental Mandibulectomy in the Treatment of Oral Cavity Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Abstract Introduction Oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) is the most common malignancy in oral cavity. Two types of mandibular resections have been described: segmental mandibulectomy and marginal mandibulectomy. Both may a different impact over quality life, oncological prognosis, functional or aesthetic result. Objectives The aim this study was to systematically explore literature determine survival outcomes disease control rates patients who underwent for OCSCC with histological evidence cortical medullary bone invasion. Data Synthesis This review involved systematic search electronic databases MEDLINE/PUBMED, Google Scholar, Ovid Medline, Embase, Scopus including articles from 1985 2019. Fifteen were included qualitative analysis 11 considered meta-analysis calculations. All them correspond retrospective cohort studies. Conclusion reveals low-level regarding local according type Our results need be precaution limited available. We just found difference 5-year disease-free survival, tendency favor confirmed when invasion evident.
